Mysore, Sep 8: In a heart-wrenching incident that came to light on Sunday September 7 afternoon in the city, five people from a family including two women, committed suicide by consuming poison in a lodge here. Two young girls, shell-shocked by the turn of events, are recuperating in Cheluvamba Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Indu, her sister Bindu and Indu's husband Vijayan Tambi. Two elderly people who were found dead in the room, are yet to be identified. Bindu's seven-year old daughter Anupama and Akhila (3) daughter of Indu, found in a state of shock in the hotel room, were admitted to hospital.

Anupama got up at around 11.30 am on Sunday morning, and after failing to awaken the elders, called up the hotel reception to inform that her family members were not getting up inspite of her efforts. The hotel staff who came to the room in response thereof, found the dead bodies. They then called up the policemen of Lashkar police station.

The family had hired the room at 9 pm on September 4. On the next day, they went visiting various places like K R S, Brindavan Garden and other nearby spots, besides Chaitra and BGS Apollo hospitals, by hiring a taxi. On Sturday night, they ordered food at about 10.30 pm, lodge owner Daljeet Ram said.

In the visitors book of the hotel, the family's address has been recorded as K B K Panikker, Avandian Apartment, Allapur, Kerala while the driving licence found in the room cites the address as Binu Balakrishnan Panikker, son of KBK Panikker, Topi House, Poornapur post, Trivendrum. The city police have already established contacts with the Kerala police in this respect.

Blood was found splattered on the beds and adjacent floor of two people. The fact that the water basin located in the bath room of the room had blood spread over it, is proof that they vomitted after consuming poison. It is suspected, that elders in the family fed sleeping pills to the children mixed with food, before going to bed. Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service.

Inspector Yashwant Kumar, police sub inspector Suresh and forensic experts visited the spot.

I doubt serious foul play on the part of the lodge owner. They were all poisoned?
