Kundapur: Over hundred BJP workers cross over to Congress

Silvester D'Souza

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, May 7: Over a hundred BJP workers from Belve NS Madamakki gram panchayat limits resigned from their primary memberships and joined Congress party in the presence of Congress candidate from local constituency, Rakesh Malli, and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary, G A Bava, on Sunday March 6. Reportedly they were frustrated by the functioning style of MLA, Halady Srinivas Shetty.

BJP activists who joined the Congress included former president of Belve gram panchayat, B Udayakumar Poojary, president of Madamakki gram panchayat, Raju Kulal, Belve gram panchayat former member, Lolakshi Shetty and over 50 others.

Speaking to media persons thereafter, Udayakumar Poojary accused Halady of enjoying benefit out of his association with BJP and then overlooking the interests of sincere party workers, duly giving importance to those who former a coterie by praising him. He accused Halady of neglecting development of his constituency although he represented it four times. In addition, he also charged him with registering false cases against honest party workers. Halady was further accused of failing to raise his voice about the burning problems affecting people living in the foot of the western ghats like distribution of title deeds, rule 94c, proforma 50-55, disposal of applications in forest rights committee, Kasturirangan committee report etc. Poojary also said that because of inefficiency of the MLA, administrative machinery has become lethargic and nothing moves without paying bribe.

"Contractors supporting the MLA recently said I have been blaming the MLA because I did not get ticket for taluk panchayat election and that I am indulging in caste politics. I have been working for the party since the 90's and if i was power hungry, I would have risen to high posts. Most of those who appreciate the MLA are contractors who reaped benefit from him. The activists who have joined Congress now are living below poverty line. They are distressed because of failure to get facilities like title deeds for which they are genuinely eligible," Poojary said.

He said that a check in the office of the tahasildar will reveal how many poor people have got title deeds on government land encroached by them during the last five years. He wondered why technical problem which makes it impossible for poor people to get land does not deter richer people to get them. He said that the decision to join Congress was taken at the advice of supporters.

Congress candidate, Rakesh Malli, noted that BJP activists have joined Congress under the leadership of B Udayakumar Poojary, and that more will join the party in the coming days. He said that these people want a change.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, G A Bava, Congress leaders, B Sathish Kini and Jayaram Shetty Soorgoli were present.

Mr. Vittal with great respect I acknowledge your reply. I have not compared Halady to Reddy. I have narrated that he has been used by BJP as Reddy’s. Reddy’s will win with money power no matter how much corrupted they are and Halady will win with his personality no matter which party he is contesting from. Hope now you are clear on that.

Now tell me when you thought I compare him to Reddys you didn’t like. Yes you are rite Reddy is corrupted and Halady is not. But matter of the fact remains, Reddy is also representing the same party Halady represents. Both of them going to vote for Yeddy as CM who is super corrupted. Now tell me for this reason you will vote Halady to have a CM like Yeddy?

Halady changed party couple of times for his own reasons and not for the people of Kundapura. We cannot have a representative using the power of people and try to dictate his party for his own positions. I am not a blind follower. If you ask me to choose Yeddy or Sidhu, I cannot ditch my conscience. For your kind information I too voted Modiji in 2014 but sincerely regret. May be difference between us is I look for a democratic value for the future of my children and society than a narrow mind approach.
    You have a nice day.

Please do not be regretful by voting BJP
I am sure our children will have better life in India than any other countries soon.IF Modiji remain in power another 11 years the poverty will be totally eradicated

I too voted for Halady always. What he did nothing. To satisfy his ego he threatened BJP and contested as an independent candidate still won. Now again joined BJP, If he is winning, he will win for BJP and not for Kundapura people this we should remember.

He is nothing less than Reddy Brothers to make a count to win one seat for BJP hook or crook. People of Kundapura are very smart. They are smart business people every where. See this time result, Halady will loose. You cannot take people for granted.

    Please wait for some time
Mr.Halady is so simple man how you can compare him to Reddy?
He works for poor people that is why he wins always
I am sure this time he will get more power to uplift Kundapur because BJP govt will take care about all the undeveloped region.
This time he will get even ministerial berth so that he can still do better
    Let us support him
    Kundapur,Karkal must develop
AS Honourable Moily did not do anything when even he was CM our 2 TQs are still behind
Let us give chance for Mr.H Shetty

In Kundapur its is Halady and only Halady.Halady wins in every election just by his name, performance and work and not by any party's symbol. This thing he has proved previous time also. The same thing will continue not only this time but in next 3 MLA elections also.As long as Kundapur voters are there with Halady, no one can defeat him untill he contests in elections.

Sir, In Karnataka BJP can only win through 'Salami Fraud' using EVM. Now my only fear is PM Modi's Mangalore speech were he has compared EVM to "Energy, Value addition, Motivation".

Perhaps BJP is the first party which wrote book on EVM credibility and first to raise about efficiency, until it is started working for its party.

In Karnataka Congress, JD(S), BSP, SDPI, CPI(M) need to take PM Modi's comment more seriously keeping in mind that even Tripura election present BJP CM Biblab has openly said in election canvassing that EVM will convert even outgoing Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to BJP.

As per the internal report BJP has programmed EVM in Karnataka, which transfering 'Mahila Empowerment party' votes to BJP which voters will hardly suspect and Congress votes to NOTA.

These fourteen votes were garnered by my father, convincing his cousin sisters and families to vote for Dr.Suvarna instead of Swatantra party candidate who was a Christian. So dont talk like a brainless character. Every vote counts;
