Mangaluru May 8: District-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai who is contesting from Bantwal constituency in the upcoming assembly polls has urged the electorate not to pay heed to false rumours spread by the BJP.
Addressing media persons here on Tuesday May 8, Ramanath Rai said, "The election campaign ahead of assembly polls is in full swing. Most of the pre-poll surveys show that Congress will gain upper hand in the coastal region. We are confident that people will bless the Congress for its development work during the last five years. We will seek vote based on our development work in the respective constituencies of the district,”
"BJP is not asking votes on their future plans in the interest of the state. But they are busy informing people that there is no development works from the Congress for the last five years. Ministers of respective constituencies have used the funds for development works. Congress has worked for the society implementing people- friendly schemes and also various projects,” he added.
"Spreading false rumours has become strength of the BJP and they are confident that they can gain victory by spreading false rumours. The BJP does not speak about development and they are not into issue- based politics. I urge people not to pay heed to these false rumours and check the facts,” Rai said.
He further said, "Opposition parties say that Ramanath Rai does not need Hindu votes, this is a foolish statement. People irrespective of religion have shown their support to me and that is why I have won 6 out of 7 times. I started my political career at a very young age. Since then people have supported me and continue to do so,”
"Congressmen have not involved in any murders. In Harish Poojary murder there was involvement of BJP. They never say a human has been murdered. But they say a Hindu been murdered. People should decide whether they will vote for those who instigate violence or those who give importance of maintaining peace and harmony in the society,” Rai concluded.
KPCC General secretary UB Venkatesh, district Congress president Harish Kumar, Mayor Bhaskar Moily, former district congress president Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present.
