Bengaluru: Freedom of choice - Viral video urges people to vote wisely in Karnataka polls

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 8: What we eat, what we wear, whom to love and freedom to speak are basic rights every Indian enjoys in a democracy. However, what happens if one is not allowed to enjoy basic freedom by the so-called moral brigade?

A viral video that suggests that one may lose their basic freedoms if they don’t vote ‘liberally’, ‘progressively’, ‘inclusively’ and ‘responsibly’ in the May 12, Karnataka Assembly polls is making rounds on social media.

The video created by a group identified as "Young India Initiatives" shows goons objecting to youth ordering steak, moral policing a woman in a mall for choosing to buy western outfit, trashing a Muslim boy for being with a Hindu girl and finally threatening a stand-up comedian who wants to speak on political issues.

The video then appeals to people of Karnataka to vote wisely.

Though the video does not name any political party and made to seem like a public service advertisement asking people to vote, one cannot help but notice the intent to spread a psychosis of fear by highlighting recent issues.

Congress was quick to take a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by sharing the video on its official Twitter handle on May2.

"Here's what the BJP would do to the people of Karnataka if it had its way. The vote is a powerful instrument for protection of your civil rights. Vote wisely & responsibly. #VoteCongress Credits: FB/YoungINDYI (sic)," Congress tweeted.

An eye opener to the electorate who blindly cast their votes to the candidates based on their affiliation to the party without thinking whether the candidate is good or bad. Voters please think before you vote to any candidate. First see how the candidate, his character, his past history, his development work and skills, etc. and then cast your vote. How much he can fight for you during any atrocities faced by you against fringe elements, government offices. Check first, can he go against his own government or party during such situation and fight for your. After checking all this, you caste your vote to the most able candidate keeping aside his party affiliation. All the best to the Karnataka voters. May the best candidate and party win and rule our Chinnada, Gandhada Nadu Karnataka and remain No.1 state of our Country. Jai Karnataka, Jai Bharath.

They are not suggesting to a particular party.

They tell the people what happens to the people if they vote the candidates who takes away the freedom of the people.

    good one.

Choose a party who gives freedom to all religion, people who encourage the people who do good and punish the people who go wrong.

That exactly is the problem. There is no law preventing all these things highlighted in the video. Our constitution provides us all the freedoms. The problem is with the ultra nationalist forces outside of the law trying to impose restrictions on the people by thuggery and intimidation and the government of the day indirectly supporting them and shielding the goons and the lumpen elements. Using the same as their foot soldiers. That is the problem.

Seems you lost memory and sense before you write this comment.. You mean to say that all these were far better during previous government of BJP ... Seems you forgotten the drama we have faced in BJP governments.. How many CM's .. Who went to jail... Refer Outlook magazine October 2010 .. the most corrupt state in India... You guys are asking mandate by portraying this jail bird corrupt as a CM... !!! Use common sense before scribble...!! I say Siddu is 500% far better than Yeddi if we compare their developments... Modi may be good somewhere but not yeddi , reddi company!

Mr. Rao. Kindly visit places like coorg, dharwad, hubbali, mysore, bengaluru rural and see for your self why people love Mr.Siddaramayya. He not only speaks but also delivers. He is an educated visionary who sees nothing but the development of the eniter nation. What has modi done? Give surprise visit to pakistan to with nawaz sherif, wrongly and unscientificly demonitizaion, dinking chai with different deligates and discussing on pointless issues, supporting the den of modi thieves! Is this "why the nation" voted for him? #wakeupIndia #voteforjustice
