Mangaluru: Heavy rain with thunder and lightning claims one life

Mangaluru, May 9: Heavy rain, accompanied by gusty winds, thunder and lightning claimed life of a youth near Town Hall on May 8.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be revealed. The dead body of the youth aged around 25-30 was found on Mallya road.

DCP Hanumantharaya said that the death occurred due to lightning and electricity shock.

A case has been registered at Mangaluru South police station.

The rain caused flooding, disrupted power supply and normal life in many part of the city. Several trees were uprooted.

A house belonging to one J V Fernandes at Bejai caught fire due to lightning. However no one at the house got injured following timely action by the fire personnel and the police doused the fire, said DCP.
