Madras HC dismisses comedian Shekher's bail plea

Chennai, May 10 (IANS): The Madras High Court on Thursday dismissed the anticipatory bail application of actor and Bharatiya Janata Party member S.Ve. Shekher.

It was in connection with the derogatory remarks about female journalists that he had posted on his Facebook page.

Dismissing the petition, the court said the police could take action against Shekher.

When his social media post had created an uproar, the former legislator had deleted it saying that he had forwarded a message to his Facebook page without reading it.

He said when a friend had pointed out that the content of the post was abusive, he had removed the post.

"I do not endorse the views expressed in it. I come from a family that respects women and women journalists," he said.
