Bengaluru: Heavy rain experienced all over state - may continue on May 12

Bengaluru, May 12: On Friday May 11, rain coupled with thunder and lightning was experienced all over the state. This untimely rain is expected to continue on Saturday.

Areas falling under malnad, north and south inland and coastal areas received heavy rain on Friday. The rain, which soaked earth on Friday evening and night and continued in several places till early morning of Saturday, dampened the spirits of people involved with last ditch efforts to woo voters through house-to-house visits.

Intensity of rain was particularly heavy in southern hinterland and malnad regions. Districts like Hassan, Mandya, Tumakuru, Kodagu, Kolar, Mysuru, Dakshina Kannada and Kolar districts got heavy downpour. These areas received between 40 and 65 mm rainfall.

North Karnataka districts like Bagalkot, Gadag, Belagavi, Dharwad, Vijayapura, Koppal etc received between 11 and 47 mm of rainfall, said Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring centre. Director of the centre, Dr Srinivas Reddy, said that Karnataka is getting rainfall on account of trough that has been created between Lakshadweep and Tamil Nadu, which is causing pre-monsoon rains. Rainfall might continue on Saturday, he predicted.
