Rajkot, May 21 (DC): In a horrific incident, a Dalit man was allegedly beaten to death in Gujarat’s Rajkot on the orders of a factory owner.
A video of the incident shows the Dalit man, identified as Mukesh Vaniya, being tied up and beaten mercilessly with a stick by two men while he keeps crying out in pain. His wife was allegedly beaten up too.
Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani tweeted the disturbing video and spoke against the brutal attack.
"Mukesh Vaniya belonging to a scheduled caste was miserably thrashed and murdered by owners in Rajkot and his wife was brutally beaten up," he tweeted, adding a hashtag saying that Gujarat was not safe for Dalits.
An FIR has been registered and five people have been caught, according to NDTV.
According to a report in The Times of India, Kiritsinh Jadeja, assistant sub-inspector, Shapar-Veraval police station said, “Mukesh was a rag picker. When he along with wife Jaya and aunt were picking up waste materials littered outside Radadia Industries, the workers, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, picked up a fight with him, accusing him of theft. They took him inside the factory, tied him up and began beating him.”
