Israel arrests 5 Palestinians for 'terror activities'


Jerusalem, May 21 (IANS): Israeli security forces have arrested five Palestinians in the West Bank on suspicion of involvement in terror activities and violent disturbances.

During an Army operation on Sunday, dozens of protesters set tires alight and threw rocks at security forces, said the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) in a statement on Monday.

The IDF responded with crowd control methods and the suspects were transferred for questioning by security forces, Xinhua news agency reported.

In addition, Israeli police arrested three suspects involved in disturbances near the Damascus gate area in Jerusalem. Stones were thrown at the police and officers on patrol.
