Mangaluru, May 26: A Kerala-based youth who was trying to travel abroad by using a passport held in another person's name was stopped by the immigration officials at the international airport here and handed over to Bajpe police station. This incident happened on Thursday May 24.
The arrested youngster happens to be Santosh (30), residing at Bailangady Perumbale near Kasargod.
Santosh had arrived at the airport at Bajpe here at about 9 pm on Thursday for flying to Dubai. During verification of documents, the immigration officials found out that he was trying to travel by using a passport standing in the name of a person named Tamban. Reportedly they took Santosh into custody and turned him over to Bajpe police for further investigation.
Santosh, who was employed in Dubai, had travelled to his native place eight months back by using this passport. It is gathered that during his questioning, Santosh claimed that the said passport was provided to him by Abdulla and Hanif, who function as passport agents in Kasargod and surroundings.
The court here has remanded Santosh to 15 days judicial custody. The police said that Tamban, who is guilty of providing his passport for someone else, would also be arrested and his role in this illegal act would be probed.
