Mangaluru, May 26: Members of district Mahila Congress staged a protest here at Congress office on Saturday, May 26, against the Modi-led central government over hike in petrol, diesel and LPG price.
Addressing the protesters, district Congress Mahila Morcha president Shalet Pinto said, "Today, we are protesting against the failure of Modi-led central government and his anti-people policies. Prices of LPG, petrol and diesel have touched sky high putting middle class people into deep trouble. Modi is busy showing his achievements through flex banners. But in reality, his government’s achievement is zero. They have not implemented the promises made in their manifesto. Modi spoke about giving Rs 15 lac to everyone. But so far, not a single penny has been credited into anyone’s bank account,”
“Even the Jan Dhan scheme has failed utterly. They never speak about development, but only about Hindutva. Even border issues have not been sorted out till date as several soldiers have lost their lives on the border after a series of attacks from Pakistan. They speak about ‘Beti Bachao’, but their own leader is involved in a minor girl’s rape case. In the last four years, their achievement is totally zero,” she said.
Mangaluru MLA U T Khader said, "Since Modi took over as the prime minister of this nation, there is no peace of mind for a common man. In the parliament, they never discuss about farmers, youths, and Dalits. Modi said that he will be the ‘Chowkidhar’ of this country. But when Nirav Modi absconded from this country with crores of rupees, he was nowhere to be seen. BJP had said that former PM Manmohan Singh was silent over attacks from Pakistan and no action was taken. In the last four years, Modi has not taken any stringent action when soldiers are dying on the borders,”
“BJP even joined alliance with PDP to form a government in Jammu & Kashmir. This shows that to gain power, BJP can go to any extent. Petrol and diesel prices are hiked every day. When UPA government was in power, the price of LPG was Rs 300, which has now reached to Rs 720. By the end of NDA tenure, the gas price will reach up to Rs 1,000 and petrol price to Rs 100,” he added.
District Congress president Harish Kumar, corporators Appi, Sabitha Misquith, Akhila Shetty and others were present.
