Nitish Kumar questions benefits of demonetisation

Patna, May 26 (IANS): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday questioned benefits of the much-hyped demonetisation move to common people and slammed banks that allegedly helped rich and powerful manage their cash during notebandi.

"I was supporter of demonetisation...but how many people benefited from it? Some powerful people shifted their cash from one place to another," said Kumar at a meeting with bank officials here.

It is first time that Kumar, who is also president of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) -- a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally, has questioned the demonetisation move of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

Incidentally, Kumar's utterances against the December 2016 demonetisation move came on a day when the party was celebrating completion of four years of Modi government at the Centre.

After the Chief Minister expressed his reservations about the benefits of demonetisation to the man on street, senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who was also present, downplayed his statement, saying: "Nitish Kumar has been a supporter of demonetisation."

In 2016, Kumar, then part of a Grand Alliance of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, had supported demonetisation, while RJD chief Lalu Prasad had opposed the move.

Nitish Kumar, you do not know yet the benefits of demonetisation? Go back and read Thewire.in report on 09/Dec/2016 which shows that from September 16 to 30, a staggering Rs 3.03 lakh crore of time deposits – fixed and recurring – were made at banks. This has never happened in any fortnight since January 2001. Finance minister Arun Jaitley discounted these reports as nothing and dismissed these exceptional deposits as a ‘marginal spike’, attributing it to dispersal of pay commission arrears from August 31 to September 15. He rubbished suggestions that these deposits were a result of news about the coming demonetisation leaking out. The wire reported that a joint managing director (JMD) of a large private bank was blunt that the government explanation was “far-fetched”
BJP wants to believe that any ruling political party will allow to suffer itself without gaining maximum benefit from this demonetization. Now boasts of corruption free.
BJP cannot continue to fool any more by using India First slogan and Hindutva as its doctrine while all it does is looting the nation day in and day out. They know what unites them is the word Hindutva.

Amar Nathal, You hit the nail on the right place because you seem to be an educated man and read the statistics carefully. It is no point explaining this to most of the Blind bhakths, who are uneducated, who blindly follow the instructions given to them by their leaders in the name of Religion, propagate hate among different religions, divide people on the basis of Caste and loot their money in the form of Taxes. For example, why can't Govt provide the petrol at Rs.50 in India, whereas in Srilanka the petrol is available at Rs.57 ( Rs.133 Srilankan Rupees). All these monies are going to the coffers of Govt who in turn spends this money on advertisements, foreign trips and largely benefiting the rich businessmen who are the major donor's of the BJP .

Subah ka bhula shaam ko ghar aa jaye to use bhula nahin kehate. Nitish Kumar still has time to redeem himself after the great betrayal to the mahaghatbandhan. He needs to part ways with liars and cheats and join the united opposition.

first of all nitish kumar elected with coalition with rjd of lalu yadav. after some time he has changed his mind gone with bjp. now he asking question to bjp misdeeds. these type of politicians who do not have straight cut policies are ruining political system of the country. it was his primary duty to resign from his cm post as he elected by anti bjp votes and laluji support and would have taken fresh mandate from the people of Bihar. His credibility is declined in Indian politics after joining with BJP.

After seeing the show of strength of opposition in Kumaraswamy's swearing in ceremony I think Nitish Kumar want to join them that is why questions demonetisation now to save his face. If you make a list of opportunistic politicians he will top the list. You can believe Uddhav Thackery but not Nitish Kumar.
