Bengaluru, May 27: Although state chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, had reportedly evinced interest in reaching an understanding in Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency where polling is scheduled to be held on Monday May 28, his hopes were dashed as party leaders failed to close differences.
Kumaraswamy had favoured concerted efforts to defeat BJP in this constituency and asked Congress candidate, Muniratna, to support JD(S) candidate and pave way for his victory. But such an arrangement could not be entered into. On the other hand, D K Shivakumar had requested JD(S) to clear the path for the election of Congress candidate. JD(S) had even offered to see that Congress candidate won from Jayanagar constituency if Congress party sacrificed Rajarajeshwari Nagar seat.
BJP campaign
Campaign in the constituency came to a halt on Saturday May 26 evening. All the three major parties, Congress, BJP, and JD(S) are in the fray in this constituency which witnessed high voltage campaigning by senior leaders of all these parties. It is said that in response to Shivakumar's move, JD(S) supremo, H D Deve Gowda, dismissed chances of reaching any understanding, observing that the coalition is limited to running the government. He said he will ensure that candidate fielded by his party wins the election here. Referring to the case filed against Muniratna relating to recovery of nearly 10,000 voter identity cards from a flat in Jalahalli, Gowda said that the election commission knows what the Congress candidate had tried to do.
BJP has fielded Tulasi Muniraju Gowda PM. On the last day, state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa, took part in two road shows in this constituency while union minister and former chief minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, also participated in electioneering.
The election from this seat was postponed by the election commission after about ten thousand voter ID cards were found in a flat in Jalahalli. Muniratna is one of the accused in the case, but he has been granted bail.
