Shivamogga, May 28: The mother of a two-month-old child from the city, who was frustrated at the attitude of procrastination owned by police department, as the police whiled away time in the name of police verification, tweeted to union minister for external affairs, Sushma Swaraj. Her tweet was attended to, verification was completed forthwith, and a new passport was ready for delivery within a matter of a few hours!
Akshata had come to her maternal home here for delivery. The application she submitted here seeking passport for her two-month-old baby got stuck for over one and half months for want of police verification. She thought of contacting Sushma Swaraj and tweeted to her. And her tweet made the necessary impact and what she needed was attended to immediately.

Akshata, who is planning to travel to Germany with her baby, had, in a series of tweets to Swaraj, drawn her attention to the fact that police personnel have been visiting her home and seeking signatures of neighbours. She said that the police had even asked people living in the neighbourhood to click the photograph of the child and provide it to them. "They are whiling away time. Is there an end to it?" she wondered in her tweets four days back.
Sushma immediately wrote back, seeking the details of the passport office through which the application was made. Akshata told the minister that the application had been submitted in Shivamogga passport office and that they have told her that the same was forwarded to Bengaluru office. As Sushma Swaraj intervened and evinced interest, the passport was issued the same evening.
After receiving her passport on Wednesday, Akshata, in her tweet, conveyed her elation to Sushma Swaraj at the fact that the latter attended to her tweet and got the work done. She thanked Sushma Swaraj and regional passport office officials on behalf of herself and her baby. She said that this incident goes to prove that voice of commoners is heard by the ruling class now and their issues are attended on priority.
