After Goa gang rape, NSUI for CCTVs and lights on beaches

Panaji, May 28 (IANS): In the wake of the gang rape of a 20-year-old woman by three tourists at a popular beach in South Goa last week, the state NSUI on Monday demanded that all beaches and tourist places in the coastal state be adequately lit and CCTVs installed there.

In a representation to Director General of Police Muktesh Chander, National Students Union of India state President Ahraz Mulla demanded that police control room vehicles should be manned by women police to deal with cases involving crime against women.

"Ensure CCTVs and lights at all beaches and tourist locations... increase the number of PCR vehicles in Goa for patrolling every isolated place and ensure that police vehicles are manned by female police personnel," Mulla said in his representation.

Chander assured the delegation of the NSUI -- affiliated to the Congress -- which met him on Monday that their demands will be looked into.
