Shivamogga, May 29: Honnali BJP MLA Renukacharya has found himself in a controversy after a video of him abusing cops during a bandh call given by the BJP against H D Kumaraswamy-led coalition government went viral.
The incident occurred in Honnali when BJP leaders led by Renukacharya observed bandh in Shivamogga on Monday May 28. Circle inspector Ramesh and ASI Kadadevaramatha are said to have urged the BJP leaders to refrain from observing bandh forcibly. The BJP leaders did not pay heed to repeated requests from the cops and warned that they would hold bike rally.
When the circle inspector tried to bring the situation under control, Renukacharya and his supporters began a war of words with the cops. The MLA is alleged to have abused the cop as per the video which is going viral on social media.
According to other reports, the MLA and zilla panchayath member M R Mahesh alias Huccha Venkat were in an inebriated state while observing the bandh.
The locals have alleged that for the last 15 days the situation in Honnali has gone out of control affecting normal life of the common man.
Reacting to the viral video, Renukacharya said, "I am a responsible MLA, why do I need to abusive language? Though we were observing the bandh in a peaceful manner, the cops tried to stop us. We are in a democratic country and we opposed when they stopped us from protesting."
The Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) called for a state-wide bandh in Karnataka on May 28 against the Kumaraswamy-led government over the issue of farm loan waiver.
