Mangaluru, May 29: In the wake of torrential rains that wreaked havoc in Mangaluru on Monday May 29, MLA of Mangaluru South constituency Vedavyas Kamath visited rain-damaged areas and took stock of the situation the same evening.
The MLA who was in Bengaluru rushed back to the city and visited areas like Pandeshwar, Attavar 5th cross, Monkey Stand, Emmekere, Yekkur, Jeppinamogaru and Bejai. He assured central's government help for those who lost homes and property due to rain.
He monitored the arrangements made by the district administration and local bodies. He also urged BJP party workers and the public to help each other in difficult situations and coordinate with the police.
MP Nalin Kumar also visited several flood-affected areas in the city and evaluated the situation. Speaking to reporters, he said, "The district administration is ready to handle any situation, so there is no need to panic. In any difficult situation people can call the district administration and rescue teams by dialling the control room number. They can even call the MP (himself) and the MLA (Vedavyas Kamath) directly for help. Police and fire service are already doing their job. It is appreciable that locals are helping the police and the rescue teams in their efforts."
Earlier in the day, Vedavyas Kamath had urged people to stay indoors and not to panic. "Do not panic. Stay safe at home. Make sure your children reach home safely from school. If any of your family, friends are travelling towards Mangaluru, Inform them about the current situation and request not to travel unless it is an emergency. We are trying to take all nessecary actions. Once I am back from Bengaluru I will personally check the conditions of the city," he had said.
He had also tweeted about emergency numbers to contact at BJP office and said he was trying his best to respond to calls and messages on social media.
