Dalit woman murdered, ears cut off in Gujarat


Rajkot, May 30 (TOI): The body of a Dalit woman, whose ears had been chopped off, was found near a river in Kutch district, hours after she went missing on Monday. The body also bore several wounds inflicted with sharp-edged weapons.

The deceased, identified as Bhachiben Shankar Siju, 36, was a resident of Ganeshnagar in Nakhatrana. She had gone to relieve herself on Monday morning. When she did not return till late in the afternoon, her husband Shankar, a labourer went in search for her.

Shankar found her body near a dry riverbed. He called emergency services and rushed her to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Nakhatrana police said it was unclear why the woman was murdered.
