Petrol, diesel prices cut by 9 paise

New Delhi, Jun 2 (NIE): The reduction in petrol and diesel prices continued for the fourth day on Saturday as oil firms cut rates of petrol and petrol by 9 paise each. The reductions come on the back of softening of international oil rates and the rupee gaining against the US dollar. Petrol in Delhi will now cost Rs 78.20 a litre, down from yesterday’s Rs 78.29. Diesel rates have been cut to Rs 69.11 per litre from Rs 69.20.

Prices vary from state-to-state depending on local sales tax or VAT. Delhi has the cheapest price among all metros and most state capitals. This is the fourth reduction in rates coming after 16 days of relentless price hikes that followed lifting of a nearly three-week hiatus on price revision just before Karnataka went to polls.

Petrol on Friday was cut by 6 paise and diesel by 5 paise. On Wednesday rates were cut by 1 paisa each. These reductions followed rates touching an all-time high of Rs 78.43 per litre for petrol and Rs 69.31 for diesel in Delhi on May 29. In the 16 consecutive increases since May 14, petrol price was hiked by Rs 3.8 per litre and diesel by Rs 3.38. The automobile fuel prices had reached a record high on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is reluctant to shoulder the burden of a cut in diesel and petrol prices and it seems more likely that the reduction will have to be effected through cuts in excise duty or state taxes.

At a meeting late Thursday at Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s residence, ONGC chairman Shashi Shanker has conveyed that the national explorer was “already in the red” after buying out Hindustan Petroleum Corp and bailing out Gujarat State Petroleum Corp in fiscal 2017-18.

Since Karnataka election over the price increased by few pauses and never I rupee so the decrease will also be in paise.regardi g Jennifer comments about MMS do you know how much subsidy the govt was paying on petrol and diesel which mostly consumed by well to do ppl .why govt should subsiside them ? Now we the same subsidy is utilized towards poor family like "Ujwal" or building of roads and electrifying the rural areas where there was no power for the last 70 years .
Now fall is just 65-70 so you save 120 on each kilo use it towards petrol and also onoin which was 80-90 now 15-20 so saving of 60-70

The reason for high prices in India is greed of govt and not oil prices. When oil prices dropped from $90 to $19/barrel. Govt increased taxes to keep the comsumer prices same (i.e. 65-70 at that time). This way they earned huge revenue at the expense if common man. Now when the prices are increasing again, instead of reversing the increased taxes they are increasing the price saying that oil prices are increasing. This is the reason petroleum has been keep out of GST. They do not want transperancy. Petrol & alcohol are cash cows for govt. They won't let go.

    Devkumar,

Since 125 years the party was in power, not voted by Pakistani or Bangladeshi voters, its Indians who voted it to power. Don't celebrate, we the very Indians will see that it comes back to power because the poor are suffering because of your business tycoons supported party.

Your Modi brought Jan-Dhan-accounts but it came with a hidden agenda of max four transactions a month. The moment a fifth transaction takes place, the account transformed into regular savings account requiring min balance thus penalizing. This will obviously eat up the balance in the account.

Modi-care is not acceptable in Private hospitals because its too cheap to handle. Wait, more disasters will pour out.

125 year old party did not entice and deceive like this !

You the most ungrateful creatures on the earth - you should have got the economy that the British left in 1947 to manage and run the government.

Its a disgrace the MMS and his team's had work hard to bring the economy to such a level and hand it over to a Chaiwala who roamed the world promising Indians back home that he is shopping business for the nation. All we got is no 'make in India' but shooting prices. Today we are buying from China, Israel, Russia and America - making nothing in India.

Accursed leaders, get their rise by 200% - where it comes from ? Not the savings out of Tea-selling but collected by taxes. But while its time for people to benefit, reducing the prices by 'Naya-Paisa' !!!!
