Rahul Gandhi accuses government of asking soldiers to buy their clothes, shoes

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI): Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hit out at the government for making "empty slogans" and accused it of asking soldiers to buy their own clothes and shoes.

He used a media report, which also claimed the Army is seeking to cut 50 per cent supply from state-run ordnance factories, to back his charge.

"MAKE (empty slogans and useless acronyms) IN INDIA.... meanwhile, make our soldiers buy their own clothes and shoes," Gandhi said on Twitter.

The media report claimed that the Indian Army has decided to cut down its supplies from state-owned ordnance factories and ensure that the money is instead spent on procuring adequate stock of critical ammunition and spares.

The report further claimed that supplies such as clothing (combat dress, berets, belts, shoes) to soldiers will be hit due to the move and soldiers will have to spend their own money to buy uniforms and other clothes from civilian markets.

With all the false propoganda war unleashed by both the BJP and the Congress and the deafening silence of the Prime Minister who could give direction to the nation, we seem to be drifting aimlessly. If the news that jawans have to buy their own unifornms is true, then it is indeed a sad state of affairs for our country.

Never in the History of Independent India have we seen the Armed Forces being belittled in such a manner. Doe not augur well for the morale of the Forces. Every effort should be made to restore the Shaan and Izzat of the Armed Forces.

Thousands of crores available for fake publicity and to hide unfulfilled promises and jumlas. Hundreds of crores available to buy MLA's to switch sides, but no money available to look after our soldiers. However, when questioned about your stupid policies like demonetization, the entire chaddi brigade invokes our army and their sacrifice, to cover their stupidity and senseless governance.
