Dubai: Emirates Pangalites celebrates Monti Fest

Dubai, Sep 17:
All Pangalites residing in the UAE celebrated Nativity Feast (Monthi Fest) on Thursday September 11, at Richmond Hotel Apartments, here in a homely atmosphere attended by more than 150 pangalites and friends.
 
The celebration began at 9.00 p m on Thursday September 11, with a warm welcome by Jovin D Souza, president of Emirates Pangalites, followed by prayer song by Arwin, Loreen, Suman, Veena and the Gospel reading by Reshma D'Sa under guidance of Ignatius Alva. Children showered flowers to mother Mary as the gathered sang traditional hymn in Her honour ‘sokkod sangatha melyam ani moreyek hogolshiyam.’


As per the tradition back home, two newly married daughters-in law of Pangla Roshni (wife of Joel Quadros) and Silvia (wife of Sunil Menezes) offered blessed corn to Charles Monis couple, senior Pangalites in Dubai followed by distribution of new paddy sheaves ‘novem’ and sweets.
 
Mickey Castelino, founder president and advisor of Emirates Pangalites delivered a talk on the significance of Monthi fest.
 
Jacqueline Pinto, student of Our Own Indian School was felicitated for bagging first rank in XII. All the sponsors of the program were also honored for their generous support.
 
A variety of entertainment programs were organized by committee members, small skit by Clevin and Ashwin D Souza, live band by Dolphy and group, songs by Loreen, Demitra, Ryan, Arwin, Suman and Vidisha, dance by Dallen. Spot prizes and games for children and adults were distributed by Joel. The programme was compered by entertainment secretary Clevin D Souza and assisted by Joel Quadros.
 
A traditional vegetarian meal prepared by Jacky's Restaurant and committee members was served on plantain leaves including Vorn and Pathrade.
 
The programme was concluded with the distribution of prizes and vote of thanks by the secretary Merlyn Castelino.
