Mehbooba blames militants for trying to sabotage ceasefire

Srinagar, Jun 6 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday blamed militants for trying to sabotage the ceasefire announced by the central government.

The Chief Minister said in a statement that the ongoing ceasefire, to mark the holy month of Ramadan, was yielding good results but said the militants were trying to sabotage it.

Reacting to the militant attack on an Army camp in Hajin a day before Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh begins his two-day visit to assess the possibility of extending the ceasefire, Mehbooba said: "Even as we see the ceasefire bringing great relief to the people, militants seem to be continuing their violent activities and desperately trying to sabotage the process. I only hope that they realise the futility of their actions soon."

Rajnath Singh is arriving here on Thursday to assess the ongoing ceasefire and to explore the possibility of extending it during the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra.
