Udupi, Jun 7: Phaniraj, Komu Souharda Vedike leader, on Thursday June 7, demanded an Inspector General (IG) level probe into cattle transporter Hussainabba's mysterious death where right-wing activists have been arrested.
Addressing a press meet on June 7, he said, "Assault and murders are not new to coastal Karnataka which is prevailing from the last 18 years. Pro-Hindu organizations like Bajrang Dal are responsible for such incidents. The local police and the Sangh Parivar are hand in glow in dealing such incidents. We will approach former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in this regard. There should be an IG level enquiry and a public prosecutor needs to be appointed to handle the case,"
"The present superintendent of police (SP) Nimbargi has been conducting fair probe in this regard and revealed the truth in this case,” he added.
"The BJP leaders have been insulting the Constitution and they have been trying to save those arrested in this case. They are making allegations against the probe team which is condemnable. They are trying to destroy evidence and thereby weaken the probe by pressuring them. The present police system too needs to be cleansed" he said.
Phaniraj further said that those who are arrested in the case have taken law into their hands. He also questioned the police as to how many cases of cattle trafficking were registered in the district. "Who have given right to these right-wing activists to take action?" he asked.
Phaniraj also questioned whether the killers of Praveen Poojary in Brahmavar last year were real cow protectors or fake.
Rajashekhar, president of the Vedike, said, "What SP is saying we can believe but not what BJP leaders are saying because they have been telling their own fake story regarding the case. There have been baseless allegations against Brahmavar sub-inspector (SI). All cattle transporters are not thieves. Those who have farms and agriculture sell the cattle to slaughterhouses if it is of no use. Hussainabba was into this business for more than 30 years and accusing him as cattle thief is condemnable. What the BJP leaders speak is implemented by organizations such as Bajrang Dal. Hence BJP does not have moral right to speak about it,”
Hussainabba along with three others was transporting cattle, allegedly illegally, in the wee hours of Wednesday May 30, when their Scorpio was waylaid. It is alleged that when Suri and other Bajrang Dal activists waylaid the vehicle, Hussainabba and the others grew frightened and ran. Three of them managed to escape while Hussainabba died.
Hussainabba's family had filed a complaint alleging that Bajrang Dal activists beat him to death, naming Suri as the accused. Locals alleged that the police were in connivance with the Bajrang Dal activists, who on previous occasions too had take police help to waylay cattle traffickers.
Hussainabba's relative had also alleged that Bajrang Dal activists had on an earlier instance, tied up Hussainabba and forced him to drink urine.
Many people including police personnel have been arrested in relation to this case.
