Udupi, Jun 7: In a proud achievement, Udupi taluk panchayat has been awarded the 'Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Empowerment National Award' in recognition of its all-round development

The award was received by taluk panchayat executive officer Mohan Raj in a programme presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jabalpur.

The award was given on the basis of all-round development brought up by the projects implemented by the taluk panchayat in the year 2016-17. It included implementation of cleanliness programmes, accounting, attendance and effective participation of members in panchayat activities. It also included distribution of central and state government benefits to beneficiaries. Apart from Udupi, Hosanagara taluk panchayat of Shivamogga district also received this award.

The award includes Rs 25 lac cash prize which will be used for development projects.

Expressing happiness at this achievement and congratulating all those in involved in the functioning of Udupi taluk panchayat, deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said, "It is a great achievement by Udupi taluk panchayat. It will inspire everyone to work with greater enthusiasm in the coming days."

Speaking to mediapersons, Nalini Pradeep Rao, president of Udupi taluk panchayat said, "It is a proud moment for us. This proves that co-ordination between people’s representatives and officials always brings good results.
