Puttur: Students’ council inaugurated, foundation stone for lab block laid at SPC

Puttur, Jun 8: The inauguration of the students’ council, clubs and associations for the academic year 2018-19 and blessing of the foundation stone of the laboratory block was held on June 7 at SJM hall, St Philomena PU College.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru diocese and president of CBE solemnly inaugurated the programme by lightening the lamp and brightened the programme. Akash C Bhat, president, Shridevi K, sercretary and Delma Lora D’Cunha, joint secretary along with the class representatives pledged the oath to work for the progress of the student community in collaboration with staff and management. This was administered by the principal Fr Vijay Lobo.



The president, secretary, joint secretary of the student’s council and JUO Jovin Joseph an outstanding cadet who participated in the republic parade held in New Delhi in the year 2017-18 were felicitated by the bishop.

The foundation stone of the laboratory block was blessed by the bishop.

Bishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza was felicitated by the dignitaries on the occasion.

Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, in his presidential remarks advised students that they should work hard and make use of all the facilities available in the institution. He said that the students should learn good values and make use of opportunities. He added that a good leader is one who differentiates between good and bad.

Fr Alfred J Pinto, correspondent advised the students that they should respect their elders. He also said that the students should have a strong base and in order to have it, they should have faith in God.

Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, campus director and chairperson of PG studies said that, an institution has three stages that is, it should be created, managed and expanded, if this has to be done, one should have leadership quality in him. He also said that the leaders should be dynamic. Leaders are the one who do not do different things but do things differently. He advised that the students should follow Karma through which they can contribute to the institution.

Prof Leo Noronha, principal, St Philomena College said that everyone should have a dream and they should live up to the dream and fly the flag of victory. He also said that we should never forget those who have sacrificed their happiness for our achievement.

J P Rodrigues, vice-president, parish pastoral committee of Mai De Deus Church, Jayaraj Bhandary, president, Alumni Association and Durgaprasad Rai, president, PTA complimented the office bearers of the students’ council.

Student welfare officers Yashwanth M D, dean of Science faculty, Usha Yashawanth, department of Kannada and Laveena Santhmayor, department of Commerce co-ordinated the programme.

Fr Vijay Lobo, principal welcomed the gathering. Akash C Bhat, president of students’ council rendered the vote of thanks. Rahul, department of Commerce compered the programme.
