Bantwal, Jun 12: A gang attacked a youth and left him injured. The incident happened on Monday June 11 at Kalladka, which falls under the limits of the town police station here.

The injured man has been identified as Chetan, a resident of Melkar near here. Chetan was on a visit to a fancy shop at Kelagina Pete, Kalladka, when Kiran Melkar, Yogish, Mohan, Keerthan, Lokesh and Vidyadhar, who arrived there in a Maruti Ritz car, attacked Chetan with cricket bats and wickets. Eyewitnesses stated that Chetan would have faced danger to his life but for the fact that he instantly entered the fancy shop and shielded himself from the ire of the attackers instantly at the sight of the gang.

Chetan, who suffered injuries to his hand and chest, stands admitted into the government hospital here for treatment.

Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Ravikanthe Gowda, stated that this attack was the extended part of a friction between two gangs which had happened near Melkar some days back.

As a precautionary measure, police vigil has been beefed up in Kalladka, Panemangaluru, Melkar, B C Road, the town and several other places. The police are now trying to arrest the culprits involved with this attack.
