Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Updated

Mangaluru, Jun 12: In a tragic incident, a newly-married couple died in an accident near Nanthoor circle here on Tuesday June 12.

The deceased have been identified as Samreen (26) and her husband Mohammed Sameer (30).

As per details available, Mohammed Sameer (30) was riding the scooter with his wife Samreen as the pillion rider. They were reportedly travelling to Beltangady.

An Eicher tempo hit the scooter from behind near the Nanthoor circle, killing Samreen on the spot.

While Samreen died on the spot, Sameer had been admitted to a hospital with critical injuries. He passed away later in the evening.

Samreen and Sameer were a newly-married couple. After marriage they had gone to the Gulf and had come down recently, sources said.

Sameer was from Kaup while Samreen was from Beltangady, sources said.

Kankanady traffic police have registered a case.

That is really sad indeed.. My their souls rest in peace we pray. What a tragic end to the newly wedded young couple. What a shock to both immediate families and others as well?
Eicher driver could have been driving rash and must have been in a hurry I suspect. ( I can be wrong here.!!)
Venkappa - Mangalore : you are right, it is very easy to blame the police.

What can the traffic police do, if our drivers do not co-operate with them? All our drivers are always in a mighty hurry and feel proud to be reckless drivers and dis-obey traffic rules. Those who obey sometimes wonder what just happens & here is what happens.
Look two young lives just gone by for some one else's mistake. What hopes families must have kept on their young children? What dreams this young couple must have had for their future life - all ended in a fraction of a second. ! Just when their Festival is fast approaching, family will be dealing with this ghastly deadly accident which took their children's lives away.
Rest in Peace both of you.!!

Sometimes two wheel vehicles are not visible to the four wheeler drivers. Many times two wheeler has to be careful because it is their life their vehicle.

And Govt also has to put more fine if 4 wheel vehicle drivers hit two wheel vehicles and human beings especially senior citizens. Then those drivers may be careful.

In city buses also drivers and conductors hurry while getting down and climbing the buses.

Both lives gone. very sad to hear.

Few more deaths.... Nanthoor junction have taken so many lives...
This is a place which badly needs proper planned flyover.
So many junctions where flyover didnt seem critical need have been built.. Kuloor/Kuntikan/Kulshekar/Kaup etc...
Nanthoor is a complicated junction with busy traffic in all directions.
I wonder what is taking so much time for an important decision.
    How many more deaths?

Mangaluru is expected to be a smart city with death traps like Nanthoor.

I live just 200 meters from this spot and have seen umteen number of deaths. Each time there is an accident we get Central and State Ministers to survey the site.

None of them ever comes back to see if any progress was done - absolutely none for the last 5 years. ONLY THE Circle has bee reduced in circumference, yet not aligned to THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY or the State highway which was relocated from PADIL-pumpwell TO padil-nanthoor. Ever since the accidents have increased, lives lost as this junction is unscientifically created and about 8 police personnel are unable to handle it. The signalling system is standing up as a monument. Shame on our planners.

RIP ! A newly wedded couple's life came to an end due to bad roads and irresponsible driving/riding !!!

" Nanthoor " is termed as the death valley of Mangalore ! There's always an accident at this junction and sadly, none of the MP's , MLA's or corporators have done any effort to come up with a simple solution of traffic signals or a circle or even a simple solution like humps to decrease the horrendous speeding of city buses and trucks !

Crores of rupees are sanctioned for the expansion of roads, but sadly Nanthoor remains as is , even though lives are lost !

Another accident at Nanthur this eve around 4 pm. A lady with her husband riding pillion, took a last minute decision n turned to her left only to be hit by a cement carrying mini truck... truck ran over the hip of the man and torso of the lady... both died in hospital at around 6.30.
They were marrried for a year & he came down from Saudi a month back...
    RIP. to the couple.
Whom yo blame road .highway authorities, scooter, mini truck
Where is now our newly elected MPS..where is nalini kateel , shubha to protest.
THEY have made the circle small what is the use.
After so many accidents incidents happening in this circle nobody is least bothered....
Request authorities please put on those signals which are installed..
Put speed breakers on the junctions...

Having lived next door to this junction, my suggestion to the Authorities is

    * build a bridge connecting the KANYAKUMARI-MUMBAI HIGHWAY (i.e
connecting traffic to and from Nanthoor to PUMP-WELL. The flow will
be uninterrupted on this highway and there is no cause of any accidents
as this highway will run on top of the circle.

    * allow the State highway coming from PADIL to PASS under this bridge.
This way the Central highway traffic does not mingle with the local and
state highway traffic. The cops will have much lesser traffic to deal with

At the present time - it is chaotic from all sides.

Why cannot we have signal at this junction. Otherwise there will be more deaths at this junction. What is the use of helmet? Scooter or any two wheeler is not suitable to our roads. The people loose their life thinking travelling with these two wheeler is cheap and flexible.

Sometimes two wheelers have no space after road or shallow deep to take side. Four wheel drivers never bother about two wheelers and pedestrians and many a time they think roads are only for them.
