Ramanagara, Jun 13: Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Udupi, opined that in politics, caste should not get undue importance it has been getting now.
He explained that when the country became independent, caste differences and caste calculations were not as profound as they are now. "It is wrong to assess everything from the point of view of caste. I am pained at the fact that caste calculations have been ruling the roost in politics now," he explained.
The Swamiji claimed that he has never been into electoral politics and that people from all political outfits are in touch with him. "Our duty is to follow religious practices, spreading of spirituality, and social service. We are not expected to indulge in election-related politics. However, whenever politicians come to me seeking advice, I give them suggestions and guidance," he stated.
The Swamiji claimed that the party he had arranged last year the temple premises was a friendly get-together and not Iftar party. He expressed his wish to invite members of all minority groups for similar feast this year.
