Four BSF troopers killed in Pakistan ceasefire violation

Jammu, Jun 13 (IANS): Four Border Security Force (BSF) troopers were killed and five others injured on Wednesday in an unprovoked Pakistan ceasefire violation on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir.

"The Pakistan Rangers targeted the Baba Chamliyal outpost in Ramgarh sector where these casualties occurred," BSF officials said.

The victims were identified as Assistant Commandant Jatinder Singh, Sub-Inspector Rajnish Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ram Niwas and Constable Hans Raj.

The injured have been shifted to an Army hospital in Jammu city.

So far this year, 50 people including 24 security personnel, have been in ceasefire violations.

On May 29, the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan agreed to implement the 2003 ceasefire pact earnestly in a bid to ensure peace on both the international border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

On June 4, the Pakistan Rangers sought a flag meeting in which it was agreed to respect the bilateral ceasefire.

Wednesday's violation comes before the annual 'Urs' (festival) at the Baba Chamliyal shrine in the Ramgarh sector.

Every year Pakistan Rangers pay obeisance and offer a 'chaddar' as a token of reverence at the shrine.

The annual Urs is scheduled for June 28.
