Will not accept ministerial berth, want to make Jayanagar model constituency - Sowmya Reddy

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (DC)

Bengaluru, Jun 13: The newly elected MLA of Jayanagar Sowmya Reddy, daughter of former minister Ramalinga Reddy, said that she is not an aspirant of ministerial berth.

Speaking to reporters after her victory against BJP's Prahlad, Sowmya said, "I have a dream to make Jayanagar as a model Vidhana Sabha constituency. My social work in my constituency is also one of the reasons for my victory. This is the victory of my father, family and every party worker,"

“Though it was Ramzan season, the Muslim brethren have worked for the party. JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda and CM H D Kumaraswamy too have supported me in this election. I thank the voters in my constituency for electing me and treating me as their own daughter," she added.

On a media query about her father not getting ministerial post, she said, "My father did not lobby for any post. He is not an aspirant of ministerial berth. Voters have elected him 7 times as an MLA and he has worked hard for the party. He never left his party and if he does not get a ministerial post, it is a loss for the part,"

“I will not take ministerial post if the party offers me. I want to serve people of my constituency. Neither I nor my father has demanded ministerial post. My father has worked efficiently during his term as minister. Let us work to make this a model constituency," she added.

Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy won the prestigious Jayanagar constituency in a tight fight against BJP's B N Prahlad by a margin of 2,889 votes. In the final round of counting, Soumya Reddy secured 54,457 votes, while BJP candidate Prahlad Babu garnered 51,568 votes.

BJP's B N Prahlad, brother of Vijayakumar, and senior Congress leader and former minister Ramalinga Reddy's daughter Soumya Reddy were locked in a direct contest for the seat. In all, nineteen candidates were in the fray. Ahead of polls, Janata Dal (S) had on June 5 pulled out its candidate from the contest and extended the party's support to its ruling coalition partner Congress.

She is not a real winner because even after withdrawing JD(S) candidate, the winning margin was very less. So BJP candidate is the real winner but BJP is a party which will not blame the defeat on EVM.

Such young, educated and selfless leaders are the only rays of hope in this gloomy environment in our country that is filled with selfish oldies with FAKE educational certificates.

Well done Sowmya Reddy, newly elected MLA.
Young leader like her should become role models, who will not seek portfolio's, will leave the decisions to party leadership and focus on serving the constituency! Great!
Seniors should learn from such leader!

Green Party could not do any improvement in last 70 Years. It is good that you are taking pledge to do Jayanagara Model Constituency. Raul Vincy & Bar Dancer Turned Politicians have pledged that They will make India a Model Country , and to do that Raul Vincy left Italy and settled down in India. Sonia Maino sacrificed by leaving High earning Job in Italy and settled down in my Poor Country. In fact my country became poor during green party ruling in last 70 years.

Now if your father earned his living in the gulf then you are alive because of the green party which you keep saying all the tym. Grow up dude. Stop being a hypocrite. We are not bothered Abt last 70 yrs. You tell me what did u do in the last 4 yrs. I'm a Hindu and I do not feel threatened. I do not know why only the andh bhakts are feeling threatened.

Well done Maam.. Work for the constituency and people will love you.. The only caution is not to let your constituency fall prey to communalism, Good leaders such as JRL and Pramod M lost in the coast as coastal people were fooled by communal strategies of this Feku party which only knows to divide this nation for vote banks..
