Udupi, Jun 15: The judicial custody of 11 accused in the alleged murder of cattle trader Hussainabba has been extended till June 28.
On Friday, June 15, eight of the accused were produced before court. Three policemen, who were sent to Karwar prison, were not produced in the court since they were admitted to a government hospital in Karwar following illness.
It is learnt that one of the accused in the case, Deepak Raj, had given information about the cattle trader to Bajrang Dal activists.
So far, 10 persons including a sub-inspector and two police personnel of Hiriadka police station have been arrested in connection to the case.
The bail plea of the accused will be heard on June 18.
It may be recalled, Bajrang Dal activists, along with the police had allegedly waylaid Hussainabba's vehicle for transporting cattle, allegedly illegally, in the wee hours of May 30. While two persons who were with Hussainabba managed to escape, Hussainabba was assaulted and his body was found on a hillock at Perdoor later.
Investigation revealed that the police had dumped Hussainabba's body after he died in the police vehicle while being taken to the station. It was speculated that he died of cardiac arrest. However, the post-mortem report has stated that he died of head injuries. The case has already been handed over to the CID.
