Mangaluru: St Aloysius BEd College organises talents’ day

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 20: St Aloysius BEd College, a prestigious institute of teacher education of the city, organized talents’ day, a spectrum of cultural competitions to encourage its trainees in different cultural areas.

Dr Malini Hebbar, head of department of English, St Agnes College, Mangaluru, inaugurated the ‘Talents Day 2018’. In her inaugural address, she mentioned, each one has talents. They remain latent in us if we don’t nourish them. Ten thousand of hours of practice can make one person genius. Citing Emerson’s quote in this regard, ‘nothing is possible without working’, she said, students have to challenge for these ten thousands of hours. School and Colleges should not follow discrimination towards their students during the time of selection for cultural competitions. Most commonly in educational institutions privileged students are given opportunities to excel. Every child’s enthusiasm is to be considered, so that every child becomes able to make his/her life beautiful subsequently, she added.

Fr Eric Mathias, director of the college, presided over the function. He started his speech referring St Aloysius Gonzaga’s quote, ‘do any ordinary works in an extraordinary way’. No one can prosper in life unless one pursues his passion. Do not expect for prizes always, accept failures and learn out of them. He invited the would-be teachers to come out of their comfort zone and to see where their services are essential. He also pointed out that the remote regions of north Karnataka need enthusiastic teachers for the wholesome development of children.

The inaugural programme started with the invoking of God’s blessings by Divya and her group. Delna Lobo, vice-principal, delivered the welcome address. Joshna B, lecturer, presented an overview of the talents’ day. Sarika Rodrigues, lecturer, introduced the chief guest to the audience. Namritha rendered the vote of thanks. Dr Farita Veigas, principal, honoured the chief guest with a memento. Guest of honour Warren Geoffrey, philanthropist from England, graced the occasion. Glen compered the programme.

The talents’ day consisted of six cultural competitions, namely, creative advertisement, group singing, creative writing, fresh flowers arrangement, cooking without fire and folk dance. Sarika Rodrigues and Joshna B, staff in-charges, organized the events. The competitions ended with prizes distribution to the winners.
