Guatemala City, June 24 (IANS): Thousands of people took to the streets here for an LGBT pride march, demanding equality and an end to sexual discrimination and homophobia in the South American nation.
Several LGBT rights groups in Guatemala, accompanied by hundreds of supporters, met at the Plaza de la República (Plaza of the Republic) on Saturday and marched toward the central park, reports Efe news.
The participants waved rainbow flags to the beats of drums and shouted slogans advocating the right to love freely.
"We are humans, love is love, no more homophobia, no more homophobia, no more discrimination," the demonstrators sang in Spanish.
"We have come this far thanks to those who preceded us in the fight to make us visible, those brave ones who put their bodies and evened the way for new generations," said a spokesperson of the organisation Visibles.
