Colonel killed in freak firing accident in J&K


Srinagar, Jun 26 (IANS): In a freak accident, a colonel was killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Monday as his personal weapon discharged while he was travelling, a defence official said.

"In an unfortunate incident, Col. J.V. Mahadik of Corps of Artillery posted at station headquarters, Khundroo in Anantnag district succumbed to the injuriess uffered due to accidental discharge of fire from his personal weapon while travelling in a vehicle," said Defence Ministry spokesman Col. Rajesh Kalia.

"The incident happened at 4.20 p.m.," he added.
