Inter-faith couple thrashed by ‘moral police’ in Assam

Guwahati, Jun 26 (TOI): In yet another instance of moral policing in Assam, a man and a woman were allegedly confined and beaten up on Saturday by villagers in Assam’s Nagaon district for having an “illicit affair”.

“Residents of Jhumurmur village physically assaulted Devi Barua and Ubed Ullah and confined them in a house. After receiving information, a police team from the Kathiatoli outpost rushed to the spot and rescued the victims,” Assam Police said in a statement.

The police on Monday arrested eight people in the case. “ A few more arrests are likely,” Nagaon SP Shankar Barata Raimedhi told TOI.

The country has topped the list of the most dangerous countries for women, thanks to widespread sexual violence, retrograde cultural practices, and trafficking, according to a poll by the Thomson Reuters Foundation. In 2011, when a similar poll was last conducted, India ranked fourth behind Afghanistan, Congo, and Pakistan.

The same brainwashed bhakts blame law and order situation in non BJP ruled states. This is exactly what they mean by good law and order. To them lynching, murder, molestations and rape and examples of good law and order.

Whatever you say, Emergency was good for law abiding people. There was no gambling, no begging, crime rate was very low. The only issue faced during emergency was FREEDOM OF SPEECH, and misuse of power by police force, that is still continuing even today.
