MP teachers on 'indefinite' hunger strike

Bhopal, Jun 26 (IANS): Hundreds of teachers gathered here on Tuesday to take part in an ongoing indefinite hunger strike against the Madhya Pradesh government's failure to keep its promise to provide facilities as per the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had in 2018 announced that teachers would be governed by a transfer policy and given maternity leave among other facilities that they were pressing for at that time.

"The government had said it will give us cadre and other facilities such as assistant teacher, permanent teacher and improved salary for lecturer designation but has only provided teacher's cadre while rejecting seniority and several more demands," said union leader Jagdish Yadav.
