Bengaluru, Jun 27: A couple from Bengaluru who planned to end lives over financial issues used the same idea that was used by a top Mumbai police officer who allegedly shot himself with his licensed revolver last month.
Realtor H K Ganesh(49), a resident of Jayanagar 4th block and his wife Sahana G (42) had reportedly decided to end lives financial issues. While examining various options to take the extreme step, they decided to follow a top Mumbai police who used his service revolver to kill himself.
On May 11, Himanshu Roy, additional director general of police (establishment), allegedly shot himself with his licensed revolver at his home in Mumbai’s Nariman Point.
On June 21, Ganesh first shot his wife dead at his residence and then took his three children to his farmhouse in Nettigere village of Kanakapura taluk. Ganesh shot his children the next day, but he missed his aim and the children survived with injuries. Ganesh rushed his children to hospital, when he was arrested. The police who were tracking him down after finding his wife dead at his residence caught up with him.
As a per a report by Times of India, Ganesh revealed to the police during interrogation, "After going through different ways of committing suicide, we decided to either hang ourselves or consume poison. But Sahana lost her nerve saying she cannot feed poison to her children nor can she put them to noose. While contemplating other ideas, we read the news about the Mumbai police officer shooting himself dead. Finally, we decided to shoot ourselves dead. It was Sahana’s decision that I should kill her first and then the children before killing myself."
A police officer said that after killing his wife and opening fire at his children, Ganesh slipped into depression and was behaving abnormally. As he kept changing his statements, it was decided not to take his custody till he recovered.
According to sources, Ganesh in his statement to the police said that he and his wife had decided to commit suicide as they were in debt. Reports claimed that Ganesh owns assets worth Rs 75 crore and faces a debt of Rs 25 crore. He reportedly blamed demonetisation for his situation, stating that the quotes he got for his assets were nearly 50% less than the price he was expecting. His wife was against selling their property to clear the debts, it is said.
