Mangalore, Sep 27: Though it is a perfect tribute to a man who is largely responsbile for upgrading the Mangalore airport to international level and putting in mammoth efforts for the setting up of the up-coming new airport terminal, it is a matter of disappointment for all the fans of M R Vasudeva, to know that they will be missing his services.

Daijiworld had earlier learnt, that he had been promoted as general manager and posted to Coimbatore international airport, and today, union minister Oscar Fernandes admitted at a press conference, that the airport director M R Vasudev has been transferred, just when the expansion project of the airport is on the verge of completion. He also added, that it was a promotion Vasudev richly deserved for his contribution to the development of this airport. He can be brought back at Mangalore airport once it is declared as an international airport, he explained.

Karnataka NRI forum, headed and founded by Rajesh Sequeira in Dubai, has arleady requested the Airports Authority of India to retain him in Mangalore airport in the promoted status, at least until the new terminal work is completed.

Terminal Will be Ready Soon: Oscar Fernandes

Oscar Fernandes, union minister for labour and employment, said that the new terminal building at the Mangalore airport will be ready soon, as the work pertaining to the foundation has already been completed.

Addressing the media after inspecting the ongoing work on Saturday September 27, Fernandes said, the airport would be declared international, as soon as the work is completed. He added, that 65 per cent of the work has been completed as of now and the remaining 35 per cent would be completed within a few days.

Expressing satisfaction at the progress of the work, Fernandes said, "I am very happy to watch the brisk progress of the work. The work will have to be speeded up further, for the early completion of the project. I thank the NRIs and even localites for showing an interest in having  a new terminal for the Mangalore airport".

Congrats Mr. M.R. Vasudev, You richly deserv the promotion c'se you have worked very hard bring our mangalore airport where it stands today in quality/standard. Well we will be very sad to leave you but I should agree with Mr. Rajesh Sequeira, since you are the back bone of this International aiport you should be retained until the project is over. I am interested to learn that Mr. Oscar Fernandes is taking little interest this time in this project which we missed in the previous projects. thanks Daiji for keeping us updated.

You will be remembered by the people of twin districts of Dakshina Kannada, for the sincere and dedicated hard work, you have putup to upgrade the Mangalore airport. The zeal, with which you have worked to promote Mangalore airport has no parallel. Your dream of making this airport a truly international is coming true, but alas !! you are transferred. I have not had the opportunity of knowing Mr. Vasudev, but the very fact that so many people have only good things to say about him, (and record those compliments for the Mangalorean diaspora to also see)speaks volumes about the person, his dedication to his work and his sincerity.

It would be wonderful if all corrupt/inept "babus" read these compliments and think that they too would like to be remembered for posterity in a very positive way. Who amongst us would not like to give our children the privilege of being remembered with dignity even when we are past the stage of holding power and "making" money???

A good name can only be earned and not bought by corruption and bribery! Officers like Mr. Vasudeva will be proudly remembered by their successors as someone who was upright and sincere. Such a legacy is worth passing on as inheritance rather than a couple of crores of ill-gotten wealth!!

Congratulations to you Mr. Vasudeva on your promotion, and may your work ethic serve as a shining example, worthy of emulation by civil servants all over India.

Congratulations to Mr Vasudev on your promotion to the GM grade.I am sure you will go even further in life. Now for the barbs. Just like one would have expected- the powers that be in Babuland do not want him to get the fullest credit for the hard work he has put in all these years. Perhaps they will now post some "connected babu" in his place so that when Mangalore becomes a truly international airport nobody will remember the efforts of Vasudev. Has anyone seen a CEO being moved out when 65 pct of a project is completed every successful business venture has a "keyman" who is kept in place till the project is completely finished. Stop this nonsense and let Vasudev get his grade, get his promotion, get his benefits but let him stay put in Mangalore till all the work is over- not only the terminal, the approach road, the planned railway station and the beautification of the area which is presently unfinished. Surely Coimbatore is not in need of an "oxygen man" while mangalore is in need of Vasudev. Mr Fernandes, you are from this district, you are announcing the transfer yet you do not understand what project work really is. Get your colleague Mr Praful Patel to cancel this transfer for at least two years.

When good honest, hardworking, committed and sincere govt officials are lost to the society their loss is irreplaceable. They are just 5% of overall govt babus and what they contribute is immeasurable. I wish india had many more of such rather than those who stand for elections.
