'Positive change': PM Modi congratulates India on GST anniversary

New Delhi, Jul 1 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the people of the nation as the roll-out of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) plan completed one year.

"I congratulate the people of India on the special occasion of GST completing one year. A vibrant example of cooperative federalism and a 'Team India' spirit, GST has brought a positive change in the Indian economy. #GSTForNewIndia," Modi tweeted.

He also shared a poster on "One Year of GST" which listed down the achievements of the One Nation, One Tax.

"GST has brought growth, simplicity and transparency. It is boosting formalisation, enhancing productivity, furthering 'Ease of Doing Business', benefitting small and medium enterprises," Modi wrote alongside the poster.

Minister of Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal also congratulated the nation on completion of one year on GST by calling it "the most transformative tax reform in India ever".

"Congratulate the nation on completion of one year of GST -- the most transformative tax reform in India ever. One Nation, One Tax and One Market due to GST has led to economic growth, simplicity for people and transparency in the economy," he tweeted.

Following Modi's lead, Goyal also listed down how GST brought a "transformative change in the lives of people through ease of doing business, providing opportunities for SMEs, formalisation, and relief for consumers".

Touted as the biggest economic reform since Independence, the GST was launched on July 1, 2017, in a ceremony held in the Central Hall of Parliament on the midnight of June 30, 2017.

It is one of the biggest achievement in tax structure, post independence.

and to get all states in agreement and simplify the tax structure,, great achievement.

Modi deserves to be reelected for this achievement alone.

It will take at least 4 to 5 years for the minor issues to get sorted...

Vasu and Mahesh, it is time to grow some brain cells. Do you really know what is GST in first place and who actually brought it? There are bhakths and there are blind bhakths and then there are blind bhakths with no grey matter inside their skull.

Feku knows only to tax salaried people and support rich tax evaders. Diamond is taxed at 0.25%, Gold at 3% but food and health products are taxed very high. BJP should be voted out in 2019.

Shame on you Feku Maharaj!! When MMS brought this GST from Gujarath, you started shouting like a mad man.

Jootely said, as long as he has life, he will never allow the GST to come into force. Now he is reborn after death and you after opposing tooth and nail, taking credit for the same GST that MMS brought.

Can't you say something about Aadhar as well because it was another policy that a certain former Gujarath CM opposed bitterly but accepted happily when became PM. Shame on you unpad and feku PM of India ever seen. You're fit to make bland bhakths happy but can't lead India forward.

it has not brought any sort of benefits to citizens of india.
    Petrol price hiking every month.
Basic cost of petrol is only 29 rupees. Bcz., of GST it's 80 to 84 rupees

Nagesh, do you know how big is the WORLD? Even GST is not your Feku Maharaja's pet but it was MMS who brought this. Brainless bhakths and your leaders like Chaiwala and Jootley opposed it tooth and nail when they were in opposition and now the same GST is the best taxation system in the world. Smell some coffee mate. When 20% of the population pays tax, you call it world's best...LOL... BTW, Kumara, either you need to come back from Abu Dhabi or at least know the truth about GST.

To determine GST itself is frightening. Steps- 1. Every taxpayer has to search a 'Code Book' running into 438 pages with 18,036 categories 2. Out of 7 tax slabs, the applicable slab has to be found 3. Add all state cesses 4. Add supply chain incentives 5. Calculate GST.
