Karkala: Nitte to start MPhil in Psychiatric Social Work

Karkala, Jul 3: Nitte (Deemed to be University) is all set to start a two-year postgraduate course in MPhil in Psychiatric Social Work. It is a clinically oriented course aimed at imparting training in Mental Health area.

Students pursuing this programme will be exposed to different aspects of mental health in prevention, promotion and rehabilitation from social work angle. This programme is geared towards training social work students in essentials skills and knowledge needed in dealing with mental health issues. Those who complete this training program will be equipped to work as counselors in various settings, rehabilitation agency (centers), as academicians, in community and research projects.

There are very few institutions in India imparting training in this area in social work. Individuals possessing master’s degree in social work and having medical Psychiatric social work specialization will benefit pursuing this programme.
