Bengaluru: Dinesh Gundu Rao becomes Karnataka Congress president

Bengaluru, Jul 4: All India Congress has appointed Dinesh Gundu Rao as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president.

He was the working president of KPCC in charge of South Karnataka before this. 

Rao will take over from Dr G Parameshwara who was leading KPCC till now.

Rao's appointment comes at a time when the Congress is looking to gain the support and votes of those from communities.

48-year-old Gundu Rao is five-time MLA from Gandhinagar in Bengaluru.

In the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress is looking to use Rao's organisational skills to keep the party together in what could be a united fight with the JD(S) against the BJP.

It is believed that former chief minister Siddaramaiah had lobbied for Dinesh Gundu Rao.

    Dinesh Gundu Rao and his father late Gundu Rao are, one of the loyal members to the Congress party unlike late Bangarappa.

    Loyalty to any party/organisation is always rewarded in the long period of time. Also, Dinesh Gundu Rao is well educated, experience in political fields and speaks well. I have observed his discussion in Indian English TV channel. We wish his all the best.

    Harold D'cunha, Mangalore, India. FYI, Late Gundu Rao was not one of the loyal members to the Congress party. He left Congress party in 1986 & formed new party All India Congress ( IG ). But his party utter defeated in the 1986-87 Zilla Parishath & Mandal Panchayath Elections. In 1989 he again joined the Congress party & won Lok Sabha Election from Bangalore South, but defeated in 1991 against Prof. K. Venkatagiri Gowda of BJP.
