Working to make Air India profitable again: Goyal

New Delhi, Jul 4 (IANS): The government is making efforts to turnaround Air India and make it profitable again to be able it fetch higher value from its strategic disinvestment, acting Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday.

Last month, the government said a 76 per cent stake sale process of the national carrier has ended as "no interest" was shown by bidders but it remains committed to the strategic divestment for which other alternatives will be evaluated.

The sale offer failed to attract any bidder by the deadline for submitting preliminary bids on May 31.

"We are taking steps to strengthen Air India's management practices and operational efficiencies so as to make it profitable again," Goyal told reporters on the sidelines of a conference here.

Noting that Air India's problems can be attributed to the acquisition of an expensive fleet and having run up huge debts, the Minister said with the government's new thrust on turning around the national carrier, there would be visible change in the next 18 months.

"Improvement in the functioning of Air India and its profitability would help us fetch a better value," he said.

If you want Air India to make profit, just reduce the staff strength to half and keep only the efficient lot. Do away with typical Government Employee attitude. Do not show mercy to inefficient employee. Everything will get solved.

Stop corruption and it will be profitable. Another policy must be hire and fire, if performance of employee is not up to the mark fire him/her.

Mr. Goyal, it is effortless, and you will be happy too. Auction the AIR INDIA to run it for 25 Years by other countries like Korea or Japan or UAE. You will get some bribe, and AIR INDIA will have profit too.

Please pay for me too for my Idea. 0.0025% is enough. Thank Mr. Goyal.

Hey Dr Kamath, The only way for Goyal to make Air India turn around and make profit is for Amith Shah to start selling Pakodas in the Air India planes & at the airports and also they can outsource it from Mangalore from Car street . Amith shahs son could keep the accounts & the profits will Zoom 5000%. History will be in the making , Furthermore they need a change of bankers & change the bank to the cooperative bank , where Amith Shah is the president . Success is assured & profitability Guaranteed

As long minister's are looking for commission....AI cannot be rescued....plain and simple...

No salary should be paid to Civil Aviation minister as long as AI does not make profits...best thing is fire all employees of AI and hire new employees from top to bottom...no reservation candidates please...current AI employees behave as if AI is run for their benefits only...don't care for passengers...who are real payer's of their salary...not the Government...
