Sep 30: Two people were killed and six people injured in an explosion in Modasa town of Gujarat's Sabarkantha district on Monday night. The blast is said to have triggered by a timer device.

In another blast in Maharashtra's Malegaon, four people were killed and three were injured.

According to police sources, the blast took place in Anjuman Chowk area near Nurani Masjid, a crowded place in Malegaon. Incidents of stone-pelting have been reported and trouble is brewing in the communally-sensitive town, reports say.

Though initial reports indicate that it was an LPG cylinder blast, police sources do not rule out the use of a crude bomb. Intelligence officials say there could be a pattern behind the blasts at Mehrauli, Modasa and Malegaon.

The low-intensity bomb went off at Modasa town at 8.30 pm, sources said.

"There has been an explosion in Modasa town but we are yet to confirm how it took place. The bomb and dog squads have been rushed to the site," District Superintendent of Police R B Bhrambhatt said.

Reports suggest that the bomb was placed on a motor cycle before it exploded. It is said that a crude bomb was used and the blast was low intensity in nature. The motor bike blew up in the blast.

Those injured have been shifted to hospital and when reports last came in it was said that four were in critical condition.
A forensic team has been rushed to the spot. An army of police personnel have now cordoned off the area where the blasts took place.

The blast occurred a few hours after the police unearthed a major haul of bombs in Ahmedabad. The police had recovered 17 crude bombs at Ahmedabad on Monday morning.
