Making pickles an excellent employment opportunity: Union Minister

Bhopal, Jul 5 (IANS): Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stand on treating selling 'pakodas' (fritters) as a proper job, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Thursday touted making and selling 'achar' (pickle) as a lucrative employment opportunity.

"I advised the wife of one of my friends to make pickles, she made it a profession and now within two years, her company has a turnover of Rs 2 crore," he told reporters here.

In response to another question, the Minister of State for Agriculture termed the weather and the market as the two biggest enemies of farmers.

He also ruled out any cut in prices of diesel, which farmers use to operate pumps for irrigation.

    His suggestion of making pickle is good. There is lot of demand for pickles and curry pastes. Lakshmishanker Patak has built multi-million dollar business by selling pickles and curry pastes.

    Another business I would suggest is running paid toilets. Rs.2 per flush. Maintain the toilet with top notch cleanliness. Millions of unemployment can be eliminated. Youth should take pride in earning and spending with dignity and not joining hooligans to earn illegally.

    In every nation, race and religions, most people are with average intelligence, some are genius and rest are all below average. Everyone cannot be NASA Scientist. We need people's expertise in every fields. From maintaining the toilets to Wall Street Broker jobs, there is a dignity in labor, if one does his/her job diligently. One can make very tasty pickle with Science Degree or build modern toilets with Engineering Degree. Well educated people should think of creating jobs and not looking for jobs. Don't give a damn about what others think about you and you will be successful in your life.

    I agree with you about this attitude of Indians. You can be highly educated but that does not mean you can't be self employed as long as you're honest. Look at the politicians of developed country, they ride in bicycle, they take taxi and other public transport, they open the car door themselves, they hold the umbrella themselves and so may things I can point out to which our politician needs an assistant. Being a minister, you can't just ask people to make pickle. If you have no security to show up, no banks will lend you anything. No proper infrastructure or protocols developed by government on how to go forward even if someone wants to start a pickle or pakora business. When you're elected by the slogan of creating crores of jobs and now after 4 years later, when election is around the corner, you don't come up with this idea. That's the only problem. make everyone respects others irrespective of their religion, region, education qualification, dress, colour and age. Right now, if you go on selling pickle, you're treated as second class citizen, that has to be stopped. If you know someone or have big balance in the bank, you don't need to be in the Que, why?? that has to be stopped. Every customer has to be treated equally.

    PM Modi's India seems to having no full time Finance Minister, every other day President of India is giving assurity on the country's financial health.

    Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat who is in the past ABVP member and he was the co-convener of the Swadeshi Jagran Manch, the economic wing of the Sangh Parivar no idea of the ground reality of the India post 'Demonitisation' that vanished jobs. The companies like Videcon which funded BJP is now blaming for the failed policies which went in bankruptcy.

    From US to Gulf job market is stagnated. GST become burden for the common citizen self employment doesn't seems to appealing.

    I totally agree with the Union Minister when he says that selling pickles is an employment. Even Mahatma Gandhi said that no occupation is lowly. There should be dignity of labour.

    But this is insulting highly-educated youth and had hurting their self-respect by this statement.
    But I want to ask the Union Minister that when a Pickle seller, by going beyond his means and skipping meals, somehow gets his son educated... does he expect his son to sell Pickle along with him?
    I know, the Prime Minister Modi, his Chief Minister and Union Minister can never understand the pain of a father whose well-educated son is being advised to sell pakoras, pickel, paan and breeding milking cows.
    Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat whose got three kids, if pickle is the future why they need higher education?

    There are 90000 jobs (out of which 45000 go for reserved) in railways. More than 3 crores applied. What can we say about these pakoda and pickle employment advisers ? They are blinded by the ignorance of truth and reality of the suffering of unemployed people. Their advice is nothing but pouring oil to the fire.

    Lalu may be corrupt but he had good vision and always putting effort to something good for the people. But in 2014 Modi gang was promised 15 Lakh Rupees to everybody and now talking about only Pakodas, Pan Shops and Pickles. This un educated and un civilized gang cannot think beyond that.
    Some parents spending their entire life and earnings on their children's education to make them Engineers, Doctors, Pharmacists, Lawyers, Journalists, Management specialists to build up their personality and make them professional and takeover some respected jobs in the country. But this jokers pushing them to Pakoda stalls, Pan stalls and Pickle buckets.
