Fuel prices again rise, petrol at Rs 75.85 in Delhi

New Delhi, Jul 6 (IANS): Fuel prices across the four metro cities rose for the second straight day on Friday after declining for over a month.

Petrol prices in Delhi rose by 14 paise to Rs 75.85 per litre, from Rs 75.71 on Thursday, data on the Indian Oil Corp's website showed.

In the other major cities of Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, petrol was sold for Rs 78.53, Rs 83.24 and Rs 78.72 per litre, up from the previous levels of Rs 78.39, Rs 83.10 and Rs 78.57 per litre.

This rise comes after prices started to decline on May 30. Also, both the petrol and diesel prices were unchanged for nine days till June 4.

In tandem with the cost of petrol, diesel prices also registered a rise for the second day in a row across the four metro cities.

In the national capital, diesel was sold at Rs 67.66 per litre, up from Rs 67.50 on Thursday.

Rise in diesel prices gains significance as the fuel is used in the transportation of agriculture and food products, in turn affecting food prices in the country.

In Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, the key transportation fuel was sold at Rs 70.21, Rs 71.79 and Rs 71.42 per litre respectively against the previous levels of Rs 70.05, Rs 71.62 and Rs 71.24 per litre.

    While in Modi's India Fuel Price competing with Vajpayee age, Chief Justice of Pakistan ordered the relevant stakeholders to find a way to bring down the prices of petroleum products and ease the burden on the common man.

    In 2008, as crude oil prices skyrocketed to $147 per barrel. Though petrol and diesel prices were significantly higher in the international market, they were based on freezing oil prices at $70/b by the UPA.

    In 2008, petrol prices fluctuated between Rs 45 and Rs 50 per litre and in 2018, they have fluctuated between Rs 70 and Rs 78 so far. In the light of this, questions before the government include: Why are prices “high” when international prices have fallen from $147 to $80 per barrel?
    Under the UPA administration, when crude oil prices averaged $132 per barrel in July 2008 (it was during that month Brent reached a historic high of $147/b) petrol price was just Rs 50.62 per litre.

    Now, when oil price is around $80/b, petrol price on May 28 has reached a high of Rs 78.27 per litre in Delhi. On the surface, it looks like Narendra Modi has been citizen-unfriendly.

    If you calculate the excise duty that the centre charges, the VAT charged by the state and the dealers’ margins, the consumer ends up paying 108% more than what a litre of petrol is actually offered to dealers at.
    While the NDA succeeded in collecting additional revenues of Rs 4.4 trillions during its four year rule.Excise duty and additional taxes are estimated to fetch the government about 2.5 trillion rupees in the year ending March 2019.

    Why are petroleum prices rising? Why is custom duty and sales tax being levied on petroleum products? We want experts opinion on the continuous price hikes?Why have consumers not benefited because of lower oil prices?

    We used to have A SHOW, ONCE IN 2 OR 3 MONTHS!!
    Then we got an opportunity of A SHOW, ONCE IN 15 DAYS!!!
    Now, we are privileged to have A DAILY SHOW!!!!

    WHEN CAN WE EXPECT 3 TO 4 SHOWS A DAY????~

    people who cannot affordable the price use public transport...
    we do not want people use there vehicle to buy gosh biryani from purana dilli.
