Shivamogga, Jul 10: In a heart-wrenching incident that is reported from Dudlimane near Thirthahalli taluk, a young girl who was crossing the canal on a footbridge along with her mother lost her balance, slipped and got washed away by the force of the water.
This tragic incident occurred on Monday, July 9. The body of the girl has not yet been traced due to the incessant rains.
Ashika (15), daughter of late Yogendra Gowda and Anita, residents of Dudlimane is the unfortunate victim who drowned in this mishap. She was a student of ninth-grade.
A holiday was declared for schools and colleges on Monday, July 9, due to the heavy rains. So Ashika was at home. She and her mother went to buy grocery from the ration shop at Honnetali and were coming back after buying the things. Ashika suddenly slipped from the footbridge and started to drown. Her mother Anita too jumped into the canal and tried to save Ashika. However, she could not save her daughter as the force of the water washed Ashika away from her.
Anita cried for help and people who were nearby arrived and tried to trace the girl but it was too late.
