Kerala bishop accused of raping nun denies moving to Vatican

Jalandhar/Kottayam, Jul 12 (IANS): A Kerala bishop accused of sexually abusing a Catholic nun, once again denied the charges on Thursday and the reports of his moving to the Vatican.

Even as a special probe team mounted a detailed investigation against Franco Mulakkal, the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar in Punjab, he dismissed any plans of going away anywhere.

Mulakkal told a Malayalam TV channel in his office in Jalandhar that he has not even been contacted by the police. He also said he has not applied for any anticipatory bail, "because he has done no wrong".

"I now hear reports that I am trying to run away to Vatican. I wish to state that I am very much here (Jalandhar) and all such reports are baseless and am not running anywhere," said Mulakkal.

Trouble began for the bishop when a Catholic nun alleged that she was sexually abused by him several times between 2014 and 2016.

An FIR was registered against the bishop and a 114-page detailed statement was taken from the nun.

Mulakkal, for his part, maintains that he has done "no wrong at all" and that the nun took part in several functions besides travelling with him.

"She also took part in the functions after the death of my mother. I have no clue on why all this has surfaced," added the bishop.

The probe team has so far collected evidences from a convent near Kottayam, where the bishop is alleged to have abused the nun.

The team will meet a few people in Kannur believed to be helpful in the case.

    The accuser could be right.

According to the Supreme Court, over 90% of the cases where women have accused men of sexual crimes, turn out to be false.

I have a strong suspicion that this one too is false accusation.

All the drama from the nun started adter she was ordered for a transfer by the bishop. She complained to many that she did not want to be transferred.

When all her complaints regarding transfer fell on deaf ears, she came up with the rape accusation.

Until the Supreme Court orders a compulsory Lie Detector test for all the accusing women, the law and order machinery (police, courts, etc etc) will waste a lot of time, money and effort for nothing in 90% of such cases.

The probe is going on and not yet proved. Let the sleuths complete the investigation process and collect all valuable/useful evidence.
Why the Nun realized the nuisance after the lapse of two years?
    Confession/other rules are man-made.
Better to repent one’s own sins and confess directly with God. (it's my openion)

Jossey Sir should be appointed 'Amicus Curiae' in this case....I have given definition of 'Amicus Curiae' to enlighten you Sir....

"An amicus curiae (literally, "friend of the court"; plural, amici curiae) is someone who is not a party to a case and may or may not have been solicited by a party, who assists a court by offering information, expertise, or insight that has a bearing on the issues in the case, and is typically presented in the form of a brief. The decision on whether to consider an amicus brief lies within the discretion of the court. The phrase amicus curiae is legal Latin."
