Udupi, Jul 13: Sea erosion has worsened at Kanakoda-Padukare area within the limits of Udyavar gram panchayat. As a result, the connecting road that leads to Malpe from Hejamady and Kaup is facing the danger of getting washed away.
Huge boulders which were stacked at the seashore to stop the advancing waves have been washed into the depths of the sea. The waves have been lashing the connecting road, crossing the plantation located on the other side, before pouring into the rivulet at the other end. All along the road, pile of waste, sand etc can be seen to have been deposited by the waves. Soil forming base for the concrete road is getting washed away because of the force of waves. Locals are apprehensive about losing the only road that provides them connectivity to Malpe.
The situation is particularly precarious at Kadthota and Kanakoda Pandarinath Bhajana Mandir and houses of a few locals are facing grave danger from advancing sea.
Tahasildar, Pradeep Kurudekar, revenue inspector, Upendra, panchayat development officer, Ramanand Puranik, village accountant, U S Raja and others visited the spot and assessed the situation.
