Mangaluru, Jul 14: After concreting and other development work, Shiradi Ghat section of national highway 75 will reopen for traffic on Sunday July 15. However, it is gathered that there will not be any formal inaugural at present.
PWD minister, H D Revanna, Dakshina Kannada MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Sullia MLA, Angara, and Sakleshpur MLA Kumaraswamy, are scheduled to inspect concreting work after coming together at Chowdeshwari temple at 11.30 am on that day. Thereafter, Revanna will address a press conference at the PWD guest house. At 2 pm that day the road will be opened for traffic, sources said, adding that an official inaugural function will be held sometime later.
Although 95 percent of works have been completed at Shiradi Ghat, there is threat of landslides because of heavy rainfall. Landslides have happened here during this year thrice. As the highway has been widened, most of the fallen mud gets deposited in the drain, which is removed by road workers at present.
At a few places, landslip has caused damage to protective wall which have since been repaired.
Even after the road is opened, contractors will continue to attend pending work like laying shoulder by the side of the road with crushed stones and mud for four kilometres, construction of remaining protective wall etc. Road signs will be erected thereafter, officials stated.
