Udupi: Honorary president of 'KaRaVe' arrested for immoral behaviour with lady

Udupi, Jul 15: Former district president and current honorary president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KaRaVe) Santhosh Shetty Panjimar, was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a lady, owner of a fancy store in Panjimar near Shirva.

The accused is said to have visited the fancy shop of the woman when she was alone and spoke to her in vulgar language and touched her inappropriately. In addition, he asked her to accompany him to a lodge in Udupi. He is also said to have threatened the woman if she does not oblige to his demand.

Santhosh had also allegedly made calls to the mobile of the said lady. The victim sought the cooperation of her husband to catch the culprit red-handed. Accordingly, Santhosh Shetty was called to the fancy shop. He came to the shop eagerly thinking that she will accompany him to the lodge as he desired. However, he was in for a surprise as the lady bashed him in the presence of her husband.

The victim belongs to the Scheduled Caste and the Shirva police have arrested the accused under Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. An inquiry is being conducted at the level of DySP as per the information given by the Kaup circle inspector Halamurthy Rao.

@H. SIDDHANTI Granted this man is a cretin and has been rightly arrested but you have no basis to tarnish the whole community. Read history before writing nonsense about Bunt-Nadavas. The Bunts were originally Jains and not Hindus and that's why they were intimately connected with Jain kings like the Hoysala dynasty. It was only in the last 500 years that bunts fully accepted brahminical Hinduism because of the religious influence of vadiraja and other swamiyars of udupi. This is the reason why Bunt-Nadavas and the remaining Jains of Canara share the same surnames like Shetty, Hegde, Alva,Banga, Ballal, Ajila and Chowta as they have a common origin.

It is interesting that you refuse to acknowledge what this community was called in the villages in the past decades, I.e. Vokkaligas, in tulu “vokkelagulu”, “vokkelmaye” for individuals. One can look at the meaning of vokkaliga and decide for oneself the truth of what I mentioned. Also, feudal lords will not be called bunts (servants, mercenaries). Granted there are some households which got passed on to this community from Jain feudal lords. It certainly is worth studying as to why that happened. Truth is ofte times what we may not like, but has to be accepted.

You probably have some axe to grind with the bunt-Nadavas so talking crap. The original term for the whole community was Nadava literally one who owns the Nad or land. Okkelya literally means an agriculturist which is one of the occupation of the bunts . No one calls the Bunts vokkaliga which is an umbrella term for kannada speaking castes of old mysore. Get your facts rights. The Tulu term Bunt has martial connotation and was originally applied to feudal vassals of Kings who held land in lieu of military service. The term Bunt became popular only after Jain hoysala Ballal rule as the Bunts were their feudatory vassals. Before hoysala invasion the Bunts were themselves ruling the region. Read about the Bunt Alupa dynasty which ruled tulu nadu for 1000 years. Also during Hoysala rule almost all Bunt Nadavas officially were Jains. Jainism declined among the bunts because of madhva seers of udupi except for few clans that still stick to the jain religion.

I grew up in Udupi taluk and everywhere this community was called as “vokkelagulu” with individuals called as “vokkelmaye”. Bunt was used as well but not that frequently. If we refer the dictionary for the meaning of bunt (Kannada kasturi Josh’s), the meaning given is “servant” and “mercenary”. Knowing all this, vokkaliga is a more dignified term than bunt, so I am baffled as to why people prefer bunt rather than vokkaliga. I know some knowledgeable people from the community who prefer vokkaliga/nadava rather than bunt. By the way, nadava means local person so is not associated with any ruling.

The term Buntar is Tulu and not Kannada and denotes a warrior in this sense. Plus you seem to be too thick headed to understand the feudal connotation of it.

Being the Hoysala Ballal King's Buntar had a lot of prestige attached to it. Read gururaj Bhat and B. A. Saletore book on tulunadu to understand the dominant influence Bunts had on tulu nadu society and culture.

After the fall of the native alupa dynasty of tulu nadu which belonged to the Bunt-Nadava caste tulu nadu was always under rule of mainland karnataka Kings like hoysala and Vijayanagar. The bunts remained feudatory of theirs until British times. Udupi District has many Bunt feudal and big landlord families that have known history for nearly 800 years.

If you grew up in udupi district hen you must know that. Example being the Katapady Beedu Ballal, Nandalike Arasa Hegde, Shirva Nadibettu Pattada Hegde, Kananjar Pattada Hegde, Anjar Beedu Kurla Hegde, Parika Aramane, Bommarbettu Beedu, Moodubelle Ballal. Kurkal Beedu Ballal etc. You should probably go and tell these families that they were not feudal lords. I can understand other communities don't like Bunts because of their huge ego and prominence but stop slandering Bunt-Nadavas with falsehoods.

Let us clarify something. In tulunadu, bant always refers to one who is a lieutenant of his master. That is why one common phrase used is “balagai bante” to refer to someone as the trusted lieutenant. Just to prove that “vokkelagulu” was used regularly (without any derogatory meaning), consider when the children teased each other they used to say “vokkelagale bant, komanada gant “. By the way, every community was made fun in similar way, but it was all in good spirit and nobody took offense. Today it seems like everybody is hypersensitive.

Here is my 'Geethopadesha' for you...

1.Force does not work with anybody nowadays, more so with women.

2.If you want to entice Women, you should know 'Smooth talk'....smoother your tongue more your chances of succeeding.

3. I would suggest wear some nice clothes, wear a big Chain( bigger the better-like dog chain!!!), remove few top button so she could see chain fully....keep some Rs 2000 notes at shirt pocket so she could see them through shirt pocket.

4. Go there couple of times to buy bangles, lip stick, Umbrella etc...so you get familiar with her.

5.Since she is SC, I would advise select a Neumoon day / Amavase day, which is likely to be auspicious for such things.

6. Go alone...don't take your friends with you, they may back stab you.

7. If you need more advise , ask my Guru Jossey Sir...give me your feed back so I could amend my strategy accordingly.

8.If it does not work out , don't worry...world is big enough for hunting...there will always enough to hunt for a good hunter....failure is stepping stone of success....it will sharpen your skills.

Yeah it was common in olden feudal days for Bunt-Shetty feudal lords to have illicit sexual relations with lower class women. Such incidents happen because some Bunt men have not got rid of their feudal mindset with regards to so called lower caste women. It is also a symptom of moral degradation that has affected Indian society as as a whole. Indian men view women as sex objects which leads to criminal activities.

Which planet are you from? Just open your eyes and see the behavior and the “businesses” practices of these vokkaligas or bunts. By the way, they were the tenants and mercenaries of small feudal kings who were mostly Jains. Hence their caste name vokkelagulu and bunter in tulu. Someone sent me a video clip of above incident. After viewing that I felt that I need to apologize for my comments which were made without realizing that the woman was married. Asking for a date is western culture and may not be appropriate in other parts of the world. In this case, the male harassed her with repeated advances.

I am a married man and my wife was asked for a date by a few men. She politely said, she was married and not interested in any dates. No one has asked her for the second time, except in one case which she handled appropriately.

I still agree that unmarried boys and girls should meet each other and open a dialogue asking for a date. If both like each other, it is a natural process of building a family with God's blessings.
